TUTORIAL VIDEO SUBMISSION

Final Videos Must:

• Include Title
• Include Edited Video Clips
• Include Step-by-Step Instructions or Guidance
• Include End Credits (who did what?)
• Be useful / informative
• Be 10 minutes or less

Videos Must NOT Include:

• Commercial Music (i.e. Lady Gaga, Metallica, etc.)
• Inappropriate Material (words, gestures, images, gangs, etc.)
• Illegal Material (drugs, alcohol, nudity, etc.)

Alternate Projects

If you are following along with the class (currently we are in Rhino) then continue to work on projects and upload finished work to your portfolio.

If you are choosing to be on an alternate track, you MUST let me know so that I can put you in a different grading track.  I also expect you to keep track of what you do on a daily basis and post your weekly progress on your blog.

For example (and you might want to include a shot of your project(s)):

ALTERNATE PROJECTS: 02/27-03/01

Monday: I gathered images for a Steampunk collage that I want to work on.  I have ideas to find stopwatches and gears and such.
Tuesday: I began piecing the images together in Photoshop and changed the background color.
Wednesday: I finished the collage and added a lens flare and some text.  I really like the project overall but might change the color.
Thursday:  I created a deviantART page and uploaded my projects.
Friday:  I began putting my projects into a PhotoStory project.

Weekly Summary: I would give myself 95% this week because I worked really hard and did well.  I got sidetracked a little when I was looking at Steampunk fashion.

Final Project: First Semester Cumulative

The basic premise of today's final is to create something cool based on the cumulative knowledge of what you have learned in Advanced Computers this year -- using the entire 2 hours.

If you have been here the entire semester I will expect something like:

• Create an object/creature in Sculptris
• Export the creation as an OBJ file
• Import the OBJ object into Bryce
• Create a scene using the object
• Save the scene as a JPEG image
• Open the image in Photoshop and edit it in some way

Basically you are showing me what you can do with the tools you have learned WHILE making something cool.  Got it?  Go!

Bryce: A Winter / Snowman Scene

Today I would like you to create a scene in Bryce set in Winter and featuring a snowman and/or a snow globe.

• Change the texture of the Plane (it starts out as a flat gray)
• Adjust the sky / change the texture
• Add some objects (trees, rocks, snow, or whatever)

When finished, make sure to:

1. Save your document (FILE > SAVE AS > whatever.BR7)
2. FULLY render your scene
3. Save your image (FILE > SAVE IMAGE AS > whatever.JPG)
4. Upload your project to your portfolio.

Be creative and have fun!

Photoshop: Public Service Poster

On Friday (tomorrow) we are going to begin putting together a "Public Service Poster".  These should be attention-getting, make a strong impression, and be school appropriate.  Take this project seriously -- because I do.

I will be giving extra credit to projects that I believe are good enough to print and hang up.

Project Specifics:

• 8.5 Inches x 11 Inches (you choose orientation)
• 150 DPI Resolution

You can choose from these options:

1. Anti-Smoking / Tobacco Campaign

Create a poster to discourage someone from using/selling tobacco products.  Include a fact (or facts) -- Here are some to get you started:  http://www.tobaccofreeca.com/resources/ 

2. Above the Influence / Anti Drug Campaign

Create a poster to discourage someone from using drugs.  Include facts about which drug(s) you are dissuading people from using.  For example, did you know that more teens are in treatment facilities for "marijuana dependency" than all other illicit drugs combined?  Or that young people who smoke marijuana are more than twice as likely to have depression later in life?  Here are some more facts to get you started: http://www.abovetheinfluence.com/facts/drugfacts 

3. Domestic Violence Prevention

Create a poster to let people know how/where to get help if they are the victims of domestic violence, dating violence, etc.  Try to find local resources (i.e. phone numbers).  Use some facts about the issue as well: http://domesticviolencestatistics.org/domestic-violence-statistics/

4. Texting While Driving

Create a poster letting people know about the dangers of driving while texting.  While it's a relatively new problem, a lot is being said about it.  Remember to include facts.  For example, you are 4 times as likely to cause an accident while driving after drinking... but 8 times as likely to drive while texting.  Here is a place to start: http://www.infographicsshowcase.com/driving-while-texting-infographic/

Add a Project to Your Portfolio

Create a project using the Photoshop skills you have learned so far and add it to your portfolio.  It could be a photo retouch, a colorized black and white image, a collage, etc.  Make sure you add "Labels" to your post (i.e. Photoshop, Colorize, etc.) and a brief description of what you did, where you got the source files, etc.  Identify your project as "My Project" (or "Free Project") so I know where to apply the grade.

If you have any free time work on customizing your portfolio.

Homework Reminder: Upcoming Projects

We have a couple assignments coming up that will require a little planning.  Your homework assignments are as follows:

• 3D Photography:  Your assignment is to find some areas where you can see depth (something in the foreground, middle, and background) and take some pictures.  We will then use those pictures to create 3D anaglyph (red & blue) images.
1. Stand as still as possible and aim your camera at a subject that doesn't move (i.e. a sleeping animal).
2. Note where the center of the viewfinder is at and take your first (left) picture.
3. Move the camera about 2.5 - 3 inches to the right (about the distance between the center of your eyes).
4. Aim your camera at the same point (as noted in step 2) and take your second (right) picture.
5. Repeat with a variety of subjects/locations.
• Logo Concepts:  Begin playing with (sketching) a series of logos which represents you in some way. 

• If you were a company right now, what would your company name be?  I might do "AskGriff" or "Griffith Enterprises" or even something more generic like "Obsidian" or "Konocti Education Technology".  
• I might choose to focus my logo on a computer or a camera or a silhouette of Mt. Konocti.   I might even opt to simplify my AskGriff cartoon character and build that into a logo.
• Begin thinking about color schemes for your company.  KHS is orange and black... Pepsi is red, white and blue... McDonalds is yellow and red.  We're going to START with black & white, but color is important and will be incorporated later.
• I'm not looking for a finished product, here -- just rough sketches for logo concepts.
